Save Our Compost is a coalition of groups fighting to keep compost free in NYC while uplifting environmental and climate justice. As a core member, the CfZWD holds teach-ins, organizes workshops, speaks at public events such as an Earth Day Compost Carnival, testifies at City Council hearings, and drafts policy changes alongside City Council Representatives.
The Save Our Compost Coalition was formed in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the city closed food scrap drop off (FSDO) sites throughout the five boroughs. In response, the coalition worked to rally support for community composting, which it continues to do to this day.
Coalition members include: Big Reuse, GrowNYC, Lower East Side Ecology Center, BK Rot, Earth Matter NY, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Queens Botanical Garden and more.
