Nearly 100 NYCHA developments are part of the PACT program, which allows the agency to modernize homes and provide enhanced community services and amenities through partnerships with private and non-profit organizations. We work with various developers and architects on numerous NYCHA PACT developments to submit Waste Management Plans to DSNY.

We were part of SOM's design team to develop a low-energy, low-water, and zero waste campus on New York City’s Governors Island. The 10-acre campus will be a beacon of sustainability, achieving Net-Zero energy, water, waste, and carbon.

New large residential buildings in New York City must submit building waste management plans for city approval. We work with design teams and developers to ensure that buildings are designed to allow for the easy separation and storage of recyclable and organic waste, and to improve working conditions for staff.

We worked alongside Grain Collective and NDNY to redesign waste yards across sixteen NYCHA campuses. We recommended updated equipment and systems to better manage waste, and where possible were able to reduce the size of the yard or reconsider the impact on the surrounding residential buildings or streetscape. The new, streamlined waste yards are organized for effective, quick collection by DSNY and safe access for NYCHA staff.

Sparrow Square is a new development in East Flatbush designed by Adayje Architects on the site of the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center. It comprises 950 affordable and supportive housing units, two homeless shelters, ground floor retail and community facilities. We developed a waste management plan for the master plan and first phase of the project.

The Center for Zero Waste Design produced a webinar with Bridget Anderson, Deputy Commissioner for Recycling and Sustainability from DSNY and Shefali Sanghvi, Director of Sustainability, Dattner Architects. The webinar was hosted by the Center for Architecture and is available as an online course for AIA continuing education credits.

OCEANIX Busan is a prototype of a resilient and sustainable floating community, with three platforms for lodging, research and living. We led the development of the overarching sustainability strategy, which was focused on a fair ecological footprint and the circularity and zero waste strategies.

A redevelopment project of a former juvenile detention center, the Peninsula is a mixed-use campus comprising 740 affordable housing units, a light industrial facility, healthcare facility, and grocer. Our team developed  waste management recommendations for residential waste, commercial waste, and a comprehensive survey of options for organic waste equipment.

Downtown Alliance is the Business Improvement District for New York City's Financial District. With tall buildings, narrow sidewalks and a rapidly growing residential population, the impacts of the piles of bags of trash and recycling on sidewalks in this area are significant. We identified operational and policy solutions.
